School Hallway

This piece was inspired by Joey McCormick, and his work on the school background scene in the cartoon, Amphibia.

For my usual background pieces, I normally use a flat brush and throw on a noise filter at the end, but in studying Joey's art, I felt that the textured brush he had added a lot more personality to the piece, so I tried imitating that as well and am really happy with the result. In a way this piece was more experimental as I tried a lot of new things for the first time, including painting a glossy reflective floor. It took me a hot minute to figure out how to properly produce the effect with the deep perspective angle being the reflective line, but it turned out great in my opinion. In addition, drawing the line-art with the perspective in relation to the lockers was tricky, it definitely took me a while. I get fairly meticulous in pieces with parallel lines, everything has to be done well to look proper, in comparison to a forest scene where there is a lot more fluidity.

Fun fact, I never actually used my locker in highschool, I just kept everything in my bag or at home.
